Homecoming |
Sylar, formerly known as Gabriel Gray, is a watchmaker turned serial killer that lives for taking the abilities from other evolved humans. Known as the "Boogeyman" and "Monster", he uses his intuitive aptitude and telekinesis to leave his "calling card" on his victims, meaning he slices open their skull to gain access to their brain, and thus, their power.
Personality
Gabriel is very a insecure watchmaker having been raised by his highly religious angoraphobic mother, his father having left at at early age. He worries constantly about his own shortcomings and failures, but he is very kind, sweet and shy. Taught to believe that he was average and nothing more. He was told he had to potential to be 'special', but lacked the knowledge of how to get there. Sylar is Gabriel's near anti-thesis. He is an egotistical, sarcastic, arrogant, serial killer. His only concern is being 'special'. He does not attach himself to other, normal, people. The reason for this may be Gabriel's fear, but Sylar denies this, calling it "separation of the species".
Sylar is eaten alive by 'the Hunger'. Sylar is Gabriel's Id, that was never allowed to be expressed. After years of repression, it came roaring to the forefront of his personality. Others have tried to convince him that Sylar is merely a another 'facet' of his personality, but he remains unconvinced. He views Sylar and Gabriel as two separate people and worries, mildly, that he is schizophrenic. The Gabriel in him despises himself for murdering, killing for something so fickle as an ability, regardless of how special or powerful it would make him. Unfortunately, for now, Sylar remains the strong one.
Power
Sylar posses the ability to acquire multiple powers via his primary: Intuitive Aptitude. His ability allows him to understand the way things work, no matter how simple or complex they may be. With the use of this ability he is able to steal the abilities of others by examining their brains. Despite this however he is able to empathize with others to gain their abilities as seen in Unaccording to Plan. Empathy is difficult for him, and he also lacks the patience to get to know potential candidates, who he views as unevolved, worthless, mindless, un-special 'people'. These people do not, in his mind, deserve their abilities if they do not put them to contructive use, as he believes he himself does. That that use is killing others, does not deter his logic.
By examining the brains of his victims, he is able to gain instant mastery of the ability he seeks, re-training his own brain to adopt and mimic it, using it with ease. Contrary to popular belief, he does not eat the brains of his victems. Intuitive Aptitude isn't without its side-effects however. Those with this ability have the overwhelming need to know more, a condition which he refers to as "the Hunger". This hunger is usually quenched by gaining new knowledge but more importantly by the acquisition of the abilities.

Relationships
 |
Noah Gray Sylar's son with his wife, Elle. Noah was born June 13th. Sandy hair, blue eyes (all baby's have 'em), healthy 7 pounds, 9 ounces, 17 inches tall. Both Sylar and Elle are unsure of the extent of his power, which is impressive regardless. |
| Virginia Gray |
Deceased in homicide. |

Elle Bishop, the daughter of one of his greatest enemies, Bob Bishop, is Sylar's girlfriend and love interest. They met when Elle was on a bag-and-tag for the Company while Gabriel attempted suicide. Elle betrayed him, and he left her. The Company wiped their memories of each other soon after. They met again at Claire Bennet's Union Well's Homecoming. Elle hunted him down and after killing Caleb they are now back together, formerly staying in his apartment, until he stole Isaac Mendez' ability of painting the future. In it, he saw Elle's charred corpse. After visiting Angela Petrelli at Primatech, they learned that the Company is planning on blowing up New York. Elle is now pregnant by him, and since he loves her, and would do anything to keep her safe, he placed her on a train heading for California so she remains out of harm's way. She disobeyed, and nearly died in the explosion of New York. They moved to California and lived for several months in peace before being disrupted when Trace was followed on her way to warn them about the government's plans. They went on the road again, and Elle was captured by Danko in Lousiana while Sylar was looking for a power. He struck a deal with Danko for Elle's release and the cessation of the government's hunt of their family, in return he would work for them. They (finally) married in April. |

Bob Bishop. Public enemy number one, as far as Sylar was concerned. The father of his girlfriend Elle, Bob has been pain in the ass him he discovered that they were dating. Bob imprisoned Sylar at one point, which only increased his need to kill her girlfriend's father. He had done some horrible things to Elle in Sylar's eyes, if not Elle's. He blames Bob for Elle's torment and sadistic streak. So they definitely had a score to settle. He can't wait to kill Bob, slowly and painfully. He is under oath not to mention Elle's pregnancy to him. However, Elle seems to have gotten over her father, much to Sylar's relief, and only now refers to him as 'Robert'. Bob left the Company in New York before the bomb, leaving Elle to die. |
 |
Peter Petrelli. Sylar holds great animosity towards "Pretty Princess Peter Pan" or "the Boy Scout" as he refers to him. The reason: Peter all-but kidnapped Elle for several days, claiming that he wanted to see if they could have a normal life. Her abscence worried the Gabriel in Sylar no end. Sylar may be jealous of Peter to some extent, since he wants to be Gabriel, who is somewhat similar to Peter's "boy scout" act, but does not have the strength to fully make the transition. Although nothing "happened", Elle assured him, he still holds a grudge for trying to steal his woman, not to mention blowing up their lives. Pete was, surprisingly, invited to the wedding. |
