Photodegeneration is the ability to literally destroy photons in the air, in both wave and particle form. It spreads out quickly, covering whatever it touches in complete and total darkness.

The side effect of this ability is that without light,there is no way to trap or create heat, and thus, the temperature within the darkness drops rapidly, capable of freezing water after only ten seconds or so of total immersion. The cold is scaling, the colder an area already is, the slower the temperature will drop, but things can - and will - freeze solidly.
