Personality

Sensitive and compassionate, he always does what he can to help others in need. This want for the greater good tends to cause Peter to be naive, but he learns from all of his mistakes. Peter tends to get jealous of living in his brother's shadow and hates how Nathan tries to push him. He still cares for his brother no matter how much they dissagree. Recently Peter's personality has taken a massive PR hit. With the destruction of New York, watching the deaths of millions at his hands; watching his friends vanish and abandon him, feeling the sense of despair as he watched Elle walk down the aisle with Sylar, as well as Peter's own father - whom he also despises - Peter felt quite the twisted rage. His personality has taken on a bit more cynical, darker one as he's become less ready to lower his powers, and more willing to kill if necessary. Not innocents of course, he's still the good guy, but Peter has no qualms with bringing his enemies down with his power.

Power

Peter has the power of Empathic Mimicry, an ability that allowed him to duplicate or "absorb" the powers of other evolved humans near him. Peter's control over other powers that he mimics varied; powers that require active concentration seem to be more difficult for him to manifest or control. Peter would typically absorb powers involuntarily, but he might not be aware of absorbing a power that requires active concentration to use.

A side-effect of the ability to mimic is being unaffected by the powers of many other evolved humans. Like Time/Space Alteration, Telepathy…..ect. Due to him gaining the same powers from being near that evolved human.

During Peter's hiatus after the blast in New York, Peter's actually been practicing much of his powers, mostly focusing on Telekenesis and electric manipulation, in hopes to put him on a more offensive and defensive footing. Capable of rapid cell regeneration, Peter's no longer the hero-pup he was before and has begun to grow up a bit.

History

Peter Petrelli was born to Arthur and Angela Petrelli; joining a family already consisting of an older brother Nathan. When Peter's birth arrived, it seemed that the youngest Petrelli would be yet another budding child to grow into a home-spun natural hero; the sort of figure that would find empathy and love in those he came around. In so doing, Peter eventually grew up to become a member of a hospice care center; a nurse really, Peter's life was revolved around death and doing his best to both ease death and save people from the brink of it.

The work with his hands often times had Peter on the edge of understanding, always feeling that there was far more than hospice work in his life for him; he felt that, in saving a life one at a time, he wasn't making enough of a difference in the world. He wanted to do more, be more, and his dreamy attitude often times left him daydreaming of the day that he'd be more. His heart felt incomplete, and his family often times found him a bit eccentric, too dreamy, and not down to earth enough. Their child, of course, was young and naive; too much of a non-chalant person to really be anything of value, and often times the Petrellis tried to convince Peter that he needed to ground himself. Yet, that wasn't enough for the young man, and in time Peter would come to prove himself correct.

When Peter begins to have vivid dreams of flying, he decides instead to confide in his brother Nathan, though he knew that Nathan would not believe him. He was convinced he could fly. Determined to prove he was for more good than evil, Peter would leap free of the rooftop of a New York building, and attempt to fly - next thing Peter knows is he's in a hospital bed. He hadn't flown - or so he thought. Yet, when he prompts his brother for the truth, Nathan finally gives in. Explaining to Peter that both had flown, which is proven while they argue and Peter begins levitating.

Things begin to take a bit out of control here. Peter breaks it off with his job at th hospital, and in turn confides in his patient's daughter Simone that he's in love with her. After they spend a night together, Peter is approached by a young man named Hiro, who tells Peter "Save the Cheerleader" or… something equally as ridiculous.

Never the less, Peter begins to find that his life is a bit of a spiral, learning that he did not have the power to fly; his brother did, he had the power to absorb such powers, and the newly arrived Empath learns of a man named Sylar determined to kill… a cheerleader. As it were, Peter's dreams tend to keep sending him in the inevitable path of this Claire Bennet, where upon running into her; he is forced to confront Sylar, and is able to hold him off to free Claire.

When Sylar and Peter are launched from a building, Sylar survives, and Peter dies—or so thought, but when Claire arrives Peter contracts her powers and is able to heal from his injuries… and here, the fun begins.

Peter's life has become something of a catalyst of the good vs. evil fight that the world lives by on its teetering axis. Determined to bring down Sylar, and The Company, two groups who do unspeakable harm to both specials and non-specials, Peter's become something of a super hero. Over his time, Peter eventually runs into a young woman by the name of Elle.

This woman and Peter share a rather deep fondness for one another, and eventually dare to fall in love—or so it would seem. Yet it was never meant to be, in time the two would have their falling out despite their obvious feelings. As it were, Peter would come to find that Elle had history with Sylar, and upon learning that she was with him Peter was angrier than ever and finally struck out against his mortal enemy.

Peter and Sylar squared off once more, in a battle that was more macho-egoism than anything to do with ideals; which, in time, resulted in Peter releasing such a massive blast of energy that he destroyed most of New York. The battle had raged on for some time, quite the feat, that eventually turned Peter into the greatest enemy he'd ever faced—himself.

Broken, and hurt by what he'd done, and what he'd learned of Elle's betrayal, had scarred Peter's rather loving, and compassionate heart, and he took off in flight far away from the city. It had been destroyed, the heroes had lost; the world really was coming down around him, and Peter was determined never to return to cause the same damage.

During his time away, Peter fumed over the betrayal of the woman he had claimed to love, and over the government that began to take quick strikes against specials, rounding them up to be registered, and as far as Peter was concerned, killed. He'd lost contact with his closest friends, much of his family, and had become something of an underground recluse. He was being hunted by government agents, who would only do harm to those who Peter loved. So, finally, reluctantly, Peter decided to return to bring the government down around them.

In so doing, he found a rather unlikely ally. Peter's first contact in this new war was Elle herself, whom he tracked down to bring him into contact with Sylar, knowing and having learned the man was quite against the government's own dealings. When the meeting finally occurred, it was with quite the tension; Peter's anger with Sylar never subsiding, but deciding to put personal issues behind him for moral, he shook Sylar's hand and a truce was enacted any government would fear: Gabriel Sylar and Peter Petrelli.

Peter's now on the hunt for his old friends, other specials, and those of like mind that will help him overthrow the government, and bring peace and equality to all again. Also, of course, he wanted to find those whose strength would aide him in the future when he knew that the truce he and Sylar enacted would inevitably fall apart and heroes would be needed again.

Peter currently, has watched the woman he loved, marry the man he despises, after walking down the aisle with the father that had tried to kill him, and that Peter had thought dead. The sight, the feelings of solitude, have driven Peter into a bit of a deranged darkness. Though not crazy persay, Peter's becoming more and more cynical, his compassion masked by a much darker attitude. No longer so hesitant to kill, Peter's becoming something of a vigilante than a hero. And he's figured it's about time he released something that would once and for all show people what the government was doing.
