"Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Personality

Jack the Ripper (though he prefers to be called Ripper over Jack) is a deranged and criminally insane serial killer and terrorist. Incapable of love or mercy, he kills men, women, and children simply because it is his whim, regardless of whether or not his victims have abilities. Despite committing several acts of terrorism, he has no ideology to prove and no interest in monetary gain or political power. He simply sees no meaning to anything in this world and has a deep loathing for the entire human race, unable to reconcile himself with their cattle-like nature. Put simply, The Ripper is a force of pure evil that cannot be bought, intimidated, or reasoned with. Trying to help, befriend, or ally with him is an endeavor doomed from the start, as he is too far gone to be salvaged. Despite his nihilism, he tends to grin, laugh, and joke around fairly often, but in a profoundly morbid and disturbing way.

The Ripper often wears old trenchcoats in which he carries several guns, knives, and explosives, and he has a penchant for wide-brimmed fedoras. Most of his body and face, including his left eye, are often covered in bandages, both old or new, to partially conceal his disfigurement. He does not often go out in broad daylight, preferring to skulk in shadows and sewers to avoid both attracting attention and having to interact with large crowds of humans, which he finds borderline nauseating. If, however, he simply must go out in public, he will resort to elaborate disguises in order to blend in.

Power

The Ripper's cells act as a colony, moving and acting either under his direction or independent of his will. He is immune to aging and can regenerate faster than normal people, but not as fast or as completely as those who actually possess rapid cell regeneration. Arms and legs cannot be regrown, only reattached or replaced. The advantage, however, is that unlike those with rapid cell regeneration, he can survive having his head blown up or cut off. If his arm or leg is torn off, it can move apart from his body. If his head is cut off it can continue to see and hear, but not talk. In addition, his body will work on its own to retrieve the head, but with decreased motor skills. His ability to put himself back together (albeit not perfectly) in just about any condition makes him effectively immortal, quite possibly incapable of a permanent death. However, it's possible that this contributes to his insanity, and because his healing isn't completely passive, extremely bad wounds will not heal completely, explaining his severe disfigurement. While not on superhuman levels, he is a capable fighter and marskman as well as a cunning tactician, having possibly honed these skills over a period of time longer than a normal human's lifespan. Finally, the Ripper does not seem to respond to pain or fatigue, allowing him to push himself to the upper limits of adrenaline-fueled human endurance. Whether this is related to his ability or his deranged mind simply doesn't process the bodily strain is unknown.

Relationships

The Ripper has no friends, no loved ones, and no allies. He trusts nobody, and is trusted only by fools or mentally unstable people. He usually acts on his own, but can be convinced to assist another in their cause if he believes it would amuse him or he has a personal stake in it. But despite his fighting skill and brilliant criminal mind, asking the Ripper for help is often a mistake that can lead to one's own undoing. Though he cares about nobody, he can be charismatic when he wishes and will sometimes use sweet or soothing words or promises to manipulate weak-minded people into doing his bidding. On top of that, he takes special interest in certain kinds of people, and will bring great suffering on them in order to test their mental fortitude for the sake of his curiousity. The Ripper harbors a nearly infathomable hatred for the human race, and rarely sees those with abilities as any different from the rest of the filthy monkeys polluting the planet with their existence. If anything, he may despise others with abilities even more, as said abilities can make their users dependant, causing them to forsake their natural instincts and cunning in favor of simple, predictable powers.

History

There are no records of Jack the Ripper whatsoever. It is almost certain that Jack is not his real name. No amount of research has ever turned up his real name, birthplace, or even his age. It is possible that he is even the same Jack the Ripper from the 1800s, thanks to his ability. He claims not to remember anything about himself prior to the becoming what he is today, but has also expressed that who he may have been before does not even matter anymore. Now, there is only the Ripper. He first came to The Company's attention when he killed an evolved human possessing superstrength they had been monitoring, surviving being torn in half in the process. He is also suspected to be responsible for the bombing of several buildings. However, with absolutely nothing to establish an identity, he has been one of The Company's most elusive targets, nearly impossible to track down. When Company agents first made contact with him, he killed them both by ripping out his own rib and using it as a stabbing implement. Afterwords, he stole valuable data they had been carrying which contained the names and addresses of other assignments. The Company frantically tried to locate him before he could use the information, but they only found him two more times, both cases resulting in the deaths of both agents and the loss of more resources. After the third failed capture attempt, The Company cut its losses, deciding that their usual methods would not be sufficient and that a fourth attempt under the normal system would risk another unacceptable breach of security. Recently, The Company has focused its efforts more on capturing targets who are not so time-consuming and difficult to track, but The Ripper remains a high priority fugitive, as allowing him to remain free only guarantees that more innocent lives will be lost.
