Personality

Casey is a very easy going person, though he is always very careful. Growing up with CIPA makes it very difficult for him to judge when he is in physical danger. It also forces him to make a mental checklist when anything questionable happens. If he trips down some stairs, he is forced to make sure he didn't break anything, or have any major damage. A difficult thing to do, since he feels no pain.

Casey is highly attentive to detail, making him a little smarter than your average teenager.

Power

Photodegeneration - This ability literally destroyed photons in the air, in both wave and particle form. It spreads out quickly, covering whatever it touches in complete and total darkness. The side effect of this ability is that without light, there is no way to trap or create heat, and thus, the temperature within the darkness drops rapidly, capable of freezing water after only ten seconds or so of total immersion. The cold is scaling, the colder an area already is, the slower the temperature will drop, but things can - and will - freeze solidly.

History

On birth, Casey was diagnosed with a rare congenital birth defect, known as CIPA: Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis. Layman's terms would basically mean, he does not feel pain of any sort. The nerve receptors there are not exactly dead, they simply do not transmit the proper signals for pain. It also makes it impossible for him to feel heat or cold, thus running the risk of overheating in the summer, as he doesn't sweat.

Nevertheless, this has not gotten him down. He's grown in to a talented artist, and though all he does now is sketch, he plainly devotes his life to it. Casey is intelligent in his own right, as he has a very close attention to detail, though books are not his strong suite. Reading is not his favorite thing. There's been no major accidents in his past; no deaths in his immediate family, no abuse, no neglect. All in all, he has had a normal childhood. That changed the day his mother walked into his room, finding it covered in ice. Originally, they thought it was just an AC short of some sort - though she never mentioned that the room had been pitch black until she called his name. That happened some time during his fourteenth year.

The thing that made him realize that he was not exactly 'normal' by conventional standards was that at one point, a man had been following him and his mother throughout a grocery store. Casey noticed him, though his mother simply assumed that Casey was being paranoid for some reason. When the man actually started to speak to his mother - about him, no less, Casey panicked. He was behind his mother, so she didn't see the darkness radiate outward like inky cracks in the air around him, until it completely consumed a majority of the grocery store.

As with everyone else, they managed to make their way outside in the complete darkness - but as he left, the darkness faded away. It was played off as a problem with the lights and AC of some form; though no one could explain why the sunlight did not get in. Since then, he's learned how to at least control it for the most part, though it isn't all that easy for him.
